- Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 18 years of age, to work in this position. Must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid unrestricted driver’s license, be insurable to operate KBIC vehicles or personal vehicles during work hours. This is a requirement of our Insurance carrier. Must also sign the KBIC Driving Record Check form.
- Maybe required to operate a Federal Government motor vehicle as part of your official duties and shall be required to complete required training to obtain a Federal Government license.
- Must have completed the following training: S- 190, S-130, L-180, I-100, and I-700. For incumbents without prior firefighting experience, the training must be completed within 30 days of appointment.
- Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of basic fire behavior as influenced by fuel, weather, and topography and of the duties and responsibilities of initial fire attack suppression.
- Must possess a working knowledge of the Incident Command System (ICS) organization and operation to work effectively within the structure.
- Must possess skills in basic orienteering (use of Global Position Units (GPS), compass, reading topography, and quad maps) and multi-channel radio communication to locate fires, properties, and local landmarks effectively.
- Must be able to lift 50+ pounds throughout an 8-hour shift.
- Must be in the good physical condition and pass the Work Capacity Test as the Arduous level within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter. Must obtain a clearance per DOI Medical Standards to be able to take the WCT test.
- Must practice safety habits at all times while at work.
- Must have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
- Must have a good working knowledge of GIS mapping applications.
- Must have report writing experience.
- Must have a basic practical knowledge of fire behavior and suppression tactics to ensure safe wildland fire suppression operations.
- Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
- May require the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to operate
motor vehicle.
- Must possess a valid, unrestricted driver’s license, a good driving record, and must be insurable. Must obtain a Federal Government operating license annually. * Must sign the KBIC Driving Record Check form.
- Employment is contingent upon the satisfactory result of a Security Background Check, pre-employment drug testing, pre-employment physical, and successfully passing the Work Capacity Test at the arduous level.
