About the Department

The TMW Center for Early Learning + Public Health at the University of Chicago develops, tests, and implements evidence-based interventions designed to promote very young children\'s cognitive and social-emotional development, with a priority placed on that of children living in poverty. TMW Center interventions are designed to be overlaid onto existing health, education, and social service systems working at scale in a given community in order to meet families where they already are. The TMW Center has a robust research and development strategy that includes further development and testing of TMW interventions; harnessing technology to support behavior change, intervention engagement, and analysis; and furthering strategies to engage parents in the TMW Center\'s interventions across the health, early learning, and social service sectors.

Job Summary

The TMW Center for Early Learning + Public Health at the University of Chicago is seeking a Research Specialist to assist in curriculum development. This position involves working collaboratively with a team of curriculum designers to interview stakeholders, research, identify and write relevant content, develop multimedia assets, pilot test new material, and refine content based on research findings. The job uses considerable on-the-job experience to ensure compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, outline, design, write, and edit curriculum content for existing and new TMW Initiative programs in coordination with curriculum team and under direction of PI and Director, Communications and Curriculum. Ensure content is accurate, on brand, accessible, and consistent in look and feel.
  • Incorporate current child development, professional development, and adult learning literature, as well as TMW Initiative research findings into curriculum content.
  • Build curriculum content including computer-based presentations, paper edits, and video rough cuts.
  • Facilitate one-on-one and focus group qualitative interviews and formative testing to obtain feedback from key stakeholders on curriculum content.
  • Collate and track feedback and address content when necessary.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with partner organizations to facilitate recruitment of participants for formative review and participation in video component of curriculum.
  • Coordinate video shoots with participants and film crews. Coach participants in modeling of best practices, as outlined in TMW curriculum, during video shoots. Organize, encode, and maintain videos. Review raw footage and flag useful behaviors for use in curriculum content.
  • Collaborate with software developers and visual designers to achieve TMW\'s goals for online programs.
  • Apply principles of adult learning as well as online instructional design methodology to develop and design engaging eLearning activities and compelling online course content for the TMW Center\'s programs.
  • Develop and manage TMW\'s Instagram account through leading content creation and managing student research assistants to maintain consistency between both appearance and content as well as a regular posting schedule and follower engagement.
  • Watch or attend all Let\'s Talk and Let\'s Talk Dads remote group sessions and attend weekly facilitator meetings to synthesize feedback and observations for continuous improvement and development of program content.
  • Manage and execute the writing and iteration process for the SPEAK CAT Feedback Tool prompts.
  • oordinate Spanish translations for all TMW curriculum materials and programs.
  • Manage and execute video updates and new video creation for all TMW curricula and supporting materials such as program videos, eConsent videos, and more.
  • Upload and manage all curriculum content forTMW programs in online content management system.
  • Manage and execute curriculum redesign efforts for existing TMW programs, reframing content, developing graphics, and creating animations.
  • Incorporate new TMW technologies into existing TMW programs.
  • Develop standalone module for the wearable device, and other supporting materials as needed for different contexts and projects in which the wearable device will be used.
  • Uses subject matter and best practices knowledge to perform lab and/or research-related duties and tasks. Works independently to assist with project design.
  • Solves complex problems relating to the administration of projects, including planning new procedures, adapting existing procedures to the needs of the project, and making significant contributions to methodology.
  • Guides data collection, evaluation and analysis. Designs and manages databases. Writes reports, articles and manuscripts.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
