General Description
Reporting to the Associate Director of Financial Aid, the Student Services Specialist supports the delivery of financial aid by reviewing student files, completing verification, counseling students and parents, conducting financial aid workshops and presentations, reviewing academic progress of financial aid applicants, administering one or more aid programs, and making effective use of technology in business processes. 
Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities
• Counsels’ students and families regarding financial aid programs; reviews eligibility criteria for all sources of aid; describes financial aid policies to students, parents and other campus constituents.

• Verifies, evaluates and interprets documents submitted by students for financial aid programs; initiates follow up with applicants for clarification or additional documentation.

• Conducts financial aid workshops and presentations on related topics such as completing the FAFSA, financial literacy, satisfactory academic progress and updates to financial aid programs.

• Calculates financial aid according to appropriate need analysis and applicant eligibility while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

• Responsible for coordinating the administration of one or more financial aid programs, including the preparation and review of reports, monitoring expenditures and reconciling data.

• Provides timely and accurate documentation, information and status reports regarding all phases of the financial aid operation, in accordance with reporting requirements to supervisor.

• Analyze and assist in developing reports to improve business processes.
• Collaborate with other student service areas to provide a comprehensive and dynamic customer service environment for students.

• Performs related responsibilities as assigned by supervisor or designee.
Education Requirements
• Master’s degree required.
Experience
• One to two years’ experience in student services and/or financial aid including significant direct contact with students.
Competencies and Skills Required
• Must possess strong interpersonal skills to interact tactfully and courteously with students, the general public, faculty, and other staff members.

• Experience with a computer-based financial aid system, including experience in implementing workflow-based student financial aid process.

• Excellent customer service, oral and written communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

• Ability to analyze a situation and take required initiative to solve problem.

• Ability to collaborate with others in a student-centered environment.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
• This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.

• Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

• Some travel required.
Salary $53,000

Terms of Employment
Full-Time.   Flexible schedule to meet department needs.  Some evening, weekends, and extended hours will be required.  Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to all on and off- campus sites as needed by the college.  Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.
