Job Description
The responsibilities of the Heavy Lift and Transport Engineer are representative of the first level of job site management. He/she reports to the Modularization Manager in the project Office and the Construction Manager on site and manages the heavy lift and transport contractor and associated activities. They are responsible for the technical execution of the heavy equipment deliveries and their installation onto foundations. For the standards by which the work is undertaken and for the quality of the Engineer’s work, the Heavy Lift and Transport Engineer reports to the Modularisation Manager at the Project level
• Management of the heavy lift and transport contractor(s) at site and remote locations to ensure compliance with contract conditions, project standards and established departmental procedures and practices.
• Development of detailed field procedures and work packages for the handling of major components from their source to their installed position. These procedures typically contain components from vendors, shipping, transport and installation contractors and shall conform with corporate standards and procedures.
• Developing engineering studies to plan and/or execute heavy lift and transport activities including temporary foundation requirements for lifting and transport systems, analysis of forces induced in rigging systems, transportation stability analyses, barge loadout ballast engineering and other engineering analyses required to properly plan prove the sufficiency of the lifting and transport activities. Also responsible for reviewing and approving similar studies undertaken by sub-contractors for their operations.
• Technical execution of those field procedures for shipping, transport and installation contractors undertaking heavy item handling operations.
• Financial performance of heavy lift and transport contract(s).
• Issue Field Instructions to heavy material handling contractors where required.
• Coordinate transport and installation activities with area and discipline managers.
• Work with Fluor HLC&T SME for implementation of Fluor heavy lift practices/ procedures and technical support for complex lift planning/ approvals.
• Responsible for tracking the physical progress of the heavy lift and transport contractor(s).
• Attend weekly meetings with client and subcontractors as requested by the Construction Manager.

Basic Job Requirements
• Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in engineering field of study and twelve (12) years of work-related experience; a recognized certification or registration in the applicable field, if required; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements
• Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
• Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
• Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
• Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
Other Job Requirements
• Previous experience in Construction, Crane, and Transportation activities
• Participate in Fluor University
• Assess and escalate issues to the Construction Engineering Manager, as necessary
Preferred Qualifications
• Civil / Structural or Mechanical Engineering degree, HND, HNC or equivalent qualification,
• Minimum 10 yr experience required with planning and execution of heavy lift and transport operations.
• Construction Management degree or global equivalent
• Extensive site construction experience required
• Requires an individual who excels in a particular area such as civil, mechanical, piping, electrical, and/or instrumentation work
• Oral and written communication skills
• Ability to speak/read multiple languages
• Advanced computer and software skills to include the use of word processing and email as well as advanced use of spreadsheets and electronic presentations
Salary Range
102,000 to 184,000
Market Rate
The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
