Job Description

Join our dynamic team as a Design Engineer III - Piping Stress Engineer and take your career to the next level. Your expertise, gained through specialized instruction and experience, will be pivotal in solving complex engineering challenges.
As a Design Engineer III, you will provide essential administrative processes and technical knowledge, promoting Fluor’s competitiveness in the global marketplace by delivering unmatched value and technical competence. You will serve as an Area Lead on assigned projects or perform moderately complex engineering assignments.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform and check calculations, specify equipment, and solve moderately complex engineering problems with precision.
• Lead the squad check effort for vendor equipment documentation, ensuring compliance with project requirements and resolving discrepancies.
• Prepare and review scopes of work for third-party contracts, supporting proposal and estimate activities.
• Identify deviations in job scope, estimate the magnitude of changes, and initiate trends or change orders.
• Deliver high-quality work, adhering to the Operating System Requirements (OSR) and executing projects in accordance with approved Activity Plans.
• Adhere to industry codes, standards, and department practices, ensuring all work meets the highest standards.
• Contribute to and promote the use of our knowledge management portals and communities.
• Engage in Fluor University® programs, mentor colleagues, develop training materials, and provide performance appraisal input and counseling.
• Foster a OneFluor mindset by engaging with Fluor’s global community and supporting departmental initiatives.
• Promote company branding through active participation in external technical organizations and presenting technical papers or presentations.
• Analyze and recommend solutions to complex problems, aligning with organizational and project objectives.
• Effectively organize and prioritize multiple projects and tasks, setting priorities and meeting deadlines.

Basic Job Requirements
• Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in engineering field of study and six (6) years of work-related experience; a recognized professional certification or registration in the applicable field, if required; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements
• Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
• Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
• Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
• Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
• Intermediate knowledge of discipline codes and standards, commercial availability and cost of materials
• Practical field experience
• Intermediate computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs
Preferred Qualifications
• Professional registration (PE) and membership in technical society.
• In-depth knowledge of piping components, commercial availability, and cost of materials. Skilled in interpreting Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) and vendor equipment documentation.
• Expertise in stress and material engineering operations, including preliminary stress analysis and calculations. Proficient in manual/computer line stress calculations and stress analysis software (Red Bag, MatMan, Auto Pipe, CAESER II, etc.).
• Ability to develop data for spring hanger design and engineered supports.
• Strong understanding of stress/strain theories, piping flexibility, support elements, expansion joints, and shock arrestor specifications.
Salary Range
92,500 to 162,500
Market Rate
The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
