General Description
The Cheerleading Coordinator has primary responsibility to provide oversight, leadership, expertise and promotes campus-wide spirit initiatives as well as direct the cheerleading team.
Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities
• Directs and supervises activities such as practices and workouts and prepare participants for sideline and college events.
• Promotes school spirit in college and community.
• Informs the Director of Athletics any spirit/sideline team concerns.
• Incorporates cheer, dance and stunts into sideline and dead ball/time outs during events.
• Informs the Director of Athletics and Athletic Trainer of any issues affecting athlete’s performance such as injuries, discipline, positives, needs, etc.
• Recommends items needed for sideline events (uniforms, fan gear, etc.)
• Promotes student body involvement at events.
• Coordinates with coaches for various activities (decorating locker rooms, assist with college events, pep assemblies, etc.)
• Assists in providing leadership programming and services learning opportunities for students.
• Maintains social aspects of participants (social media, code of conduct, as well as appropriate behavior in uniform, etc.)
• Reflects a positive image for the team and UCNJ Union College of Union County, NJ, both on and off the playing arena. Ensures that the members of the team conduct themselves with a high degree of moral integrity as representatives of UCNJ at all public appearances whether on or off campus.
• Fosters an environment that supports and encourages each student-athlete to graduate within the two-year window, including monitoring the attendance in the ALC as is required by all student-athletes.
• Shows strong initiative and desire to work in a highly collaborative environment.
• Perform administrative and oversite duties for Cheer Squad including, updating safety protocols, and completing any form necessary to make sure the program is in compliance with college protocol.
• Schedule and overseeing Cheer Squad try-outs, including instruction and judging.
• Coordinate and be present at all games that the Cheer Squad will attend.

Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree Required with Cheer Experience and/or Cheer Certification.
Experience
Preferred Experience:

• 3 years coaching or teaching experience with knowledge of Pep Squad, Cheer, and/or Dance strongly preferred.

Competencies and Skills Required
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
• This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment or inside a gymnasium work environment, based on the activity scheduled.
• Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
• Some travel required.

Salary $6,000 per contract

Terms of Employment
Part-time position. Flexible schedule to meet department needs. Evening, weekends, and extended hours will be required. Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to all on and off-campus sites as needed by the college. Mandatory to attend all Women’s/Men’s Basketball games and college events (November – March). Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.
